A prototype can test appearance, fit, assembly, handling or function. Define the decision it must support before comparing printer specifications.
Create a prototype brief that can be matched to a process and reviewed product.
Name the decision the prototype must support
State whether the team needs a visual review, fit check, assembly trial, functional test or communication model. This sets the relevant evidence.
Record geometry and critical features
Provide overall dimensions, thin walls, holes, mating surfaces, tolerances and preferred orientation. Identify which features must be measured.
Define material behavior without overclaiming equivalence
Describe stiffness, flexibility, temperature exposure, appearance and handling needs. A printing material name does not automatically equal the final production material.
Include iteration and finishing workflow
Estimate revision frequency, required turnaround, support removal, sanding, washing, curing, painting or assembly so equipment is compared as a workflow.

For an international project, use one written prototype brief, controlled file revision and agreed acceptance images or measurements. This reduces ambiguity across time zones and teams.
